The Italian Program offers the following courses:

LITA 105 – First-Year Italian I is an introductory course that focuses on aural comprehension, speaking, reading, writing and culture. Students will explore a variety of topics including greetings, sports, cuisine, music, fashion, family, TV and Italian film. No previous study in Italian is needed.

LITA 107 – First-Year Italian II is the continuation and enrichment of LITA105. It still focuses on aural comprehension, speaking, reading, writing and includes topics such as travel, vacation, careers, health, art and theater. Prerequisite: LITA 105.

LITA 200 – Second-Year Italian I fosters a richer understanding of Italian language, life, and culture. The course helps students learn and use the Italian language through various approaches: oral, verbal, grammatical, and written. The course is conducted entirely in Italian, and LITA 107 (or equivalent) is a prerequisite.

LITA 201 – Second-Year Italian II focuses on engaged, active learning, and involves various reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities to help students gain a richer understanding of Italian life and culture. LITA 201 is now accredited for AUCC 3B and it is required for the Italian Interdisciplinary Minor. Prerequisite: LITA 200. Placement exam can substitute for LITA 200.

LITA 296  Group Study-Italian  Credits: Var[1-5]

Course Description: Group study in language/literature/culture.
Prerequisite: None.
Terms Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
Grade Mode: Instructor Option.

LITA 365  Studies in Foreign Film-Italian  Credits: 3 (3-0-0)

Course Description: Representation of Italian society through film. Taught in Italian.
Prerequisite: None.
Terms Offered: Fall, Spring.
Grade Mode: Traditional.
Special Course Fee: No.

LITA 495  Independent Study-Italian  Credits: Var[1-6]

Course Description:
Prerequisite: None.
Registration Information: Must have completed three years of Italian at college level.
Terms Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
Grade Mode: Instructor Option.
Special Course Fee: No.
