Our graduate programs prepare you for flexible, interdisciplinary careers in law, social justice, education, business, and more.
Students entering the program are advised to read thoroughly the most recent Graduate Studies Manual and familiarize themselves with the existing options and procedures.
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures offers a 12-credit graduate certificate in French Linguistics and Literary Studies (FLLF-CT) and in Spanish Linguistics and Literary Studies (SLLF-CT).
Our MA in Spanish allows graduate students to learn from scholars who produce innovative work that is critically minded and theoretically driven.
Our faculty links disciplines as diverse as literature, linguistics, language pedagogy, and translation to prepare our students for entrance into competitive PhD programs, a variety of teaching opportunities, and any number of additional career possibilities.

Three Options
- Departmental MA: selective focus on language, literature and culture (2 years)
- Interdisciplinary MA: language, literature and culture as well as another field in the humanities (2 years)
- The Department also offers a 12-credit graduate certificate in French Linguistics and Literary Studies (FLLF-CT), as well as Spanish Linguistics and Literary Studies (SLLF-CT). These options are open to students from other departments, as well as to non-CSU or non-degree seeking students with a bachelor’s degree.

The Graduate Certificate in French Linguistics and Literary Studies provides academic training to students in the French language, Francophone literatures and cultures at the Master’s level, while advancing their proficiency of French, at the graduate level.

After submitting your online application and paying the application fee, begin submitting your supporting materials to complete your application:
- Upload a variety of supporting documents directly to your application.
- To submit official transcripts, contact your previous institutions to request they submit official transcripts to Colorado State University (use institution code 4075).
- Candidates from countries in which English is not the official language must also provide evidence of competency in English equivalent or higher to: a TOEFL PLT score of 550, or a TOEFL IBT score of 80; a IELTS score of 6.5; or a Pearson PTE score of 58. To submit test scores, contact the testing agency to request that scores be sent directly to Colorado State University (use institution code 4075).
